DAY 068 – Yanice Jackson – Ingham County Treasury, The Chronicle

November 18, 2020

Lansing, MI

Dear Community Leader, I hope this letter finds you well. I am reaching out on behalf of Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing. My name is Yanice Jackson, and I am the Community Liaison for Eric Schertzing. As the Community Liaison, it’s my duty to reach out to various community Leaders, Organizations, Corporations and Local governmental entities, to see how we can work together, to meet immediate needs of the community regarding Social Justice/Racial Equity. We are working towards achieving equitable outcomes in wealth accumulation and income, education, safety, health and other measures of well-being among all County residents and County employees. On June 9th 2020, the Ingham County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution to declare Racism a Public Health Crisis within Ingham County(Click here to read press release) With this we recognize African-Americans and People of Color are disproportionally effected, due to the effects of systemic racism. As a result, we are intentionally addressing and supporting methods that will strategically reduce the long-term impact of systemic racism within Ingham County. Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing (Click here for Treasurer Homepage) is supporting the efforts of the Ingham County Racial Equity Taskforce, to move towards implementation of anti-racism policies into the fabric of our community. We are working towards measurable action, to change the way the health, safety and well-being of the community is viewed. With this is mind we are working to schedule outreach meetings with various community organizations/leaders to come together, share insights and identify potential opportunities to address racial disparities and bring attention to the marginalized population within Ingham County. This starts within increasing public awareness of the services and resources within Ingham County. With the input of County residents, we will support the Taskforce to identify and track metrics pertaining to areas involving criminal justice, social capital, environmental, voter suppression, education and transportation. We are confident if we work together we can make progress as we seek equal rights for all that live, work and play in Ingham County. We look forward to speaking with you soon. I will be certain to reach out directly to see when we might be able to arrange a meeting to speak more in detail about our initiatives and how we can partner going forward Regards, Yanice Jackson
